'Hello there! My name is Sabre! Earlier this year, I found a new home through the Doberman Welfare Association, so I thought I’d share my story.

I had a very good life with my owner, but sadly, due to circumstances, I had to move. First I went to a Foster home with two lovely people who looked after me very well. One Saturday, we had some visitors at the foster home; two very nice people came by for a cup of tea. I thought they were very friendly, as they played with me and took me for a walk. I didn’t know it then, but these two people were going to be my new mum and dad.

A week later they came back to the foster home, and this time they took me with them. We had to drive a very long time, and I didn’t really know what was going on, so I was a little bit nervous. Luckily, we had plenty of stops along the way, and eventually we got to my new house. Straight away, I had a good look around all the rooms. I particularly like the garden which is really good for playing football and rugby! (I’m quite a sporty star, you know!)
It had been about 4 weeks of quite a lot of change in my life, so it took me a little while to figure out what was going on. Especially the first weekend I was a bit nervous. But that didn’t take long at all! My new house had lots of space especially for me, with comfy chairs and sofas with my name on it and I settled in as if I’d always lived there.

I’ve been in my new home for 4 months now, and I am one happy dobie! I take my mum and dad on lots of walks every day. Most days we play with my ball on a big field. There are lots of other dogs there as well. I like having a little play with them, as long as they don’t go near my ball!

We go on long walks in the forest as well, I’ve discovered every little path there is. I love running straight into the mud, I always get covered in it! But I won’t go in the water in the stream to wash off; swimming is just not my thing. Mum says I’m a prim and proper princess (when she ignores the mud on me) and Dad thinks I’m a bit of a wimp. They’re both a bit right really; I can be a bit of a princess, and also a big wimp. The smallest little things can scare me sometimes, even the odd fly!

Mum and dad say I’m very well behaved. We still like to train together, but really, I already know it all. The only thing they always say is that I will eat anything and everything! If anything is lying around in the street, or in the forest, and I see it before they do, I will eat it! Yum!!

I want to say a big Thank You to Sue from the Doberman Welfare association for matching me with my new mum and dad. We’re very happy together and after the upheaval during the first 4 weeks of this year, everything has worked out really well!'
They're splitting up. They were together for 24 years. I think it's very sad.

It's not something I know about in relationships, or something I understand. My parents are still together, after a total of about 40 years. I believe they meant it when they got married. Unlike nowadays, where it seems people get married knowing divorce is a realistic option.

Anyway, one of this couple said it was because they grew apart a lot in a short space of time. This was due to the other one starting a career once the kids were old enough. Work apparently took over, and the family started coming second more and more. Of course I don't know all the details.

I don't think the problem was that she was now working. The problem (one of many probably) was that she let it take over. It must have been possible to fit a career in alongside the family. I think many of us are in that situation; it's the work-life balance.

But the whole thing got me thinking. Like I said, I don't understand. After so many years, how can there suddenly be something that can't be worked through anymore. Is it really a case of reaching the end of your tether? Is it giving up, no longer making the effort, and throwing all those years together away?

Marriage is supposed to be for life. Call me old-fashioned, but I like that principle. It may be easy for me to say, as it never really has featured on my 'to-do list' for life. And it still doesn't, as I view it as such a big commitment, I'd want to be sure it was right.

I do want to be with someone for ever, if you know what I mean. It may even be IRP, you never know. I was thinking, people tend to be in a relationship for quite some time before they get married. You pretty much know the imperfections in your partner. Perhaps there are then two questions to ask yourself before marriage, beside the obvious 'do you love the other?'.

Can I accept the little flaws and little things that annoy me in my partner?
How good are his good qualities and subtleties? Are they things you might easily find elsewhere in a way that appeals to you as much as they do when it's your partner?

Lots of pampering first, did my hair, got all my bits together. I was really looking forward to it, and decided to start getting ready early.

So I put on my dress, and looked in the mirror, something looked wrong... It was the zip, it had broken... Suddenly I was stuck in the dress, couldn't get it off, desperately trying to get the zip back to normal without breaking it. But it wouldn't budge, so in the end I had to rip it off... It was awful! Of course I didn't have a back up dress, what to do??? By now it was nearly 5 pm, and we were leaving just before 6...

So I phoned a friend, and she was kind enough to lend me her dress! Great! Except, she was in a pub about 20 minutes away, her house was another 10 minutes away, and then I'd have to drop her off again, and get back to get dressed and ready on time... Panic!

But it had to be done. I was back just about 10 to 6, got dressed, got my make-up done, and was ready by 10 past 6. Not bad methinks.

The ball was really nice! I had a lovely time. IRP had a good time too I think. The food was good. We were there with some other friends, which was nice. It was all a bit painful this morning, but not too bad so it was worth it.

And for once, I'm not on my own! Great stuff!!!!!

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much, as IRP is hardly mr Romantic. But I was wrong, he knows how to keep the lady happy. I got the biggest bouquet of flowers, it is absolutely beautiful!

I suppose I half-expected flowers, as these are his preferred gift. I think it's an easy way out for him, not much hassle and not difficult to pick. But then he had a card as well! It was just the most perfect card, it simply said:

'To my girlfriend, My Valentine, just to say; I love you (with all my heart)'

How lovely is that!!! I just loved it!! He added some words himself as well. I was very impressed!

Of course I never got him a card, because I didn't think he'd be bothered, so I just ran out to get one... I did get some nice undies for later tonight, so it's not like I'd made no effort at all.

We're off out to the Valentine's Ball. I've got my dress ready, my hair done, so all sorted. Got some awful bridget jones undies to go with the dress first, so I'll make sure IRP doesn't catch sight of that... I will look fab tonight tho!

Happy Valentine's day everybody! Big hug, share the love around today!

Our beautiful dog. Turns out IRP is not the only one crazy about her. I spend quite a bit of time looking after her, but today was IRP's turn and I realised I missed the dog.

Anyway, here's a picture of her.
We don't have any snow here, and it's actually really nice outside, especially in the sun.

The first week with the dog didn't go badly at all. We started leaving her on her own on Wednesday, and she was good as gold. IRP has completely fallen in love with her, but is still not ready to admit it.
We only had our first incident today, where she tore up a lovely fluffy, fury cushion that was on a the sofa. IRP was not impressed. She knew she'd done wrong, so we pointed her in the direction of her toys and hopefully that will be that.

I'm turning into a dog-obsessed person with nothing else to talk about, it's horrible, must be fixed soon! It's funny as I've never really been one for pets and things...

In other news, things between IRP and me are a bit strained at the moment. That's not great. I'm not sure why but I suspect he's got some worries on his mind about his construction business in these difficult times, as I've noticed he's started to talk about money and the cost of little things. He never used to talk about this at all, other than to say money was no problem... hmmm... And there is always an element of big man talk to filter out of course (no offense men, but it's often true).

Anyway, it's been tricky and it's new ground to me. I would always leave at any hurdle, so I'm trying not to at the moment. But in my mind, I've packed my things and left about three times this weekend. I guess this is where the commitment thing kicks in for normal people. Well, I'm trying. I don't know yet if there is a need to draw any lines, and if so, where it should be drawn...

The dog needs looking after as well, that take the two of us for sure, so that's keeping me around for now as well. She's so cute! We washed her in the bath last night. She didn't like the shampoo much, but she loved the rinsing with warm water after. And then we lit the fire for her to sleep and dry out. Cute cute doggy!
Will post pictures soon!

We had an early start on saturday, left home at 7 am to drive to a little place north of Chelmsford. It took three hours to get there with traffic.

It was a quick pick up so the dog wouldn't know what was going on. She wasn't feeling too well, she was nervous of course. It was then a very long drive home with the dog in the van. We stopped plenty of times for a walk.

When we finally got her back home, she was ok. We got her bed out, and her toys. We let her loose to run around the house and the garden to explore. She seems perfectly happy. We played football with her and took her for walks around her new area.

She's very well behaved and well trained. She didn't go after the other dogs and walked well on the lead.

On Sunday, we took her to the seafront for a walk. She didn't want to get in the car tho... in the end we managed. I then wanted to stop off at mine to change my shoes quickly, but that upset her. It seems she's scared to be left at the moment, and is clinging to us as we're all she's got now. She didn't like the sea, she was scared of it. But she loved walking and running on the common.

Today, she thought it was best if we woke up at 4 am... So we sent her back to bed, that was ok. Then IRP had to go to work around 6, and the fun started again. She was very unsettled then. I got up and took her for a walk, but she seemed scared of everything. It's sad to see. I hope she settles in soon. It's not even been 48 hours yet...
And she doesn't like the snow, so I guess that's not helping...

I'm working from home to stay with her. And probably tomorrow as well, as the snow means I won't drive to work anyway.

If anyone has any tips on how to help a dog settle in her new home, anything is much appreciated.

Pictures will follow soon!

I'm popping by tonight, to say hi, how are you? And to tell you my latest news.

I think about this blog often, and I feel bad for not writing much. But the reason for this is mostly that I don't have much to say at the moment.

Still plenty of opinions on everything in the world of course, but not currently anything strong enought to write about perhaps...

Anyway, I couldn't possibly forget you all, and this little blog of mine, so here's my latest news that I wanted to share.

I think I may have told you before, that IRP and I were trying to rehome a dog out of rescue. We were struggling because we both work, but we've now been selected for a dog!
We went to see her last week, and we're going back on saturday to pick her up. The dog is a girl Dobermann, 4.5 or 5 years old, and really sweet and well behaved. She lives just north of Chelmsford at the moment, so it's a bit of a trek, but we're getting her this weekend and it's really exciting! Her name is Sabre, and I'm sure I'll be telling you more about her soon.

Hope you're keeping well! And looking forward to the festive season! Only a month away now!

I've been really busy lately. Work has gone mad. I've started on a new programme, and setting it all up from scratch has been really good, but busy and at times stressfull. I've also been away on travel for a few weeks, in the Washington DC area for work, which was good. Did lots of work, and got to see the sights.
After Washington, it was straight to Holland with IRP to meet the family. Scary! But that was really good too! We spent a few days in Amsterdam before heading to my hometown. It was my niece's first birthday, and it was all really nice.

Just been back for almost a week now, and trying to get back to a normal routine. It's good to be back! I'll try to visit here more often and write more, and read more.

Ouch! I guess recession seems unavoidable now.

And governments the world over are trying to make things better by throwing money at the problem. Well, actually, not at the real problem, just at the consequences of the real problem.

Money down the drain then... I think so. 700 Billion for the US financial markets? Short term solutions to long term problems? I'm worried that governments spending all this money will only make things worse in the long run. What will happen in a few years time, when the money is needed for some useful rebuilding? There won't be any money left as it was wasted in this big bail out.

Why do they not let some more of these banks go bust? Is this really only about save-guarding peoples savings? Would a cost-benefit analysis not show that this is a costly inefficient thing to do based on the level of debt out there?

And I love all the new terms like 'toxic debt' and some other little gems. The media is having a field day! And there's not a lot of objective reporting going on! Just a lot of panic stories!

I've streamlined my already rather streamlined budgets in anticipation. This could potentially be a catastrophe, created by a culture of living on credit, and it should be handled carefully with an eye to the future, rather than any rash cowboy plans created with elections in mind...

We went to the Double header a little while back. 2 matches to kick off the season. That was a really good day out!
Then last saturday, some of IRP's friends had a spare ticket for the Help for Heroes match. So I got to go! That was really good too!
Had so much fun. IRP couldn't go, so I went with some of his friends. I didn't know them very well, so was a bit worried about a day out with people who are almost strangers. But it was a really good laugh!

Still haven't seen IRP play though... Think I'd be worried watching other people bashing into him and stuff on the pitch... Oh dear... (he is always a bit battered and bruised on saturday evening...)

I didn't enjoy it much, and it turned out to be an extra special long one as well! The usual 25 minute trip from work took nearly 90 minutes and was pretty much a crawl the whole way!
I was bored as well, because my stereo wasn't working. Or at least I thought it wasn't, which is why I'd made an appointment to get it fixed.

So I finally got to the stereo mechanic man yesterday. He took one look at it, pushed exactly one button, and the thing sprang back to life... How embarrasing!Very funny!

Last night, IRP took me out for a meal and it was exactly 6 months since our first date. We had some nice food. The travelling fair is on the common this weekend for the bank holiday, so we went there after dinner, and IRP won me a teddy. I got to pick one, and found one with the same name as IRP so now I've got a mini cuddly version of IRP.

Tony is looking at a Suzuki Alto (new model) tomorrow. It's cheap and cheerful, and economic to run. It's got mixed reviews, but all I really need a a little car (parking comes at a HUGE premium where I live) which doesn't cost much and gets me to and from work (15 minutes of town driving and 10 minutes on the motorway). It's a 53 Reg and it's done only 19000 miles.

What do you think?

Anyway, gotta dial into another meeting tonight so best get on... Won't finish much before 10 tonight... feeling suitably sorry for myself

Sounds a bit over-dramatic perhaps, and I guess it probably is. I think I need to gain some perspective so I thought I'd write a few words to try to lift the fog...

It's really only to do with work I suppose, but as that's a rather large chunk of my time, it does affect other areas of my life. Not in the least because it funds my life.

I was offered a new job within my company recently. It wasn't really something I would get excited about but it was offered to me at VERY favourable terms... so I accepted the job. About a week later, those VERY favourable terms were withdrawn (I think because the company I work for is @#~*&^). So I withdrew my acceptance. That caused a bit of an issue it seems.

Several people from management came to see me, to 'talk off the record, the decision was entirely up to me'. I stuck to my guns, especially as no one was trying to anything to negotiate the terms at all. Eventually, the Director of a large part of my business unit came to see. Reckoned he came to talk to me as a friend. I hardly know the guy so that was a rather large stretch really. So it was clear the pressure was on. It was my decision as long as I decided to take the job...
So I did, I really didn't have much of a choice, there would've been repercussions. I suppose I could've left the company, but like I said, the job funds my life... What do you do?

Yesterday, it was announced that we've won the contract that I will now be working on. Good news I guess, but it brings a lot of change with it. I have to move to a different office, but they haven't finalised a new office for this work yet.
I have to handover my current job, but there isn't a replacement yet.
There isn't currently enough information to know anything for sure. There are way too many lines of communication, all saying slightly different things, and plenty of rumours about. It's difficult to figure it all out.
People are asking me questions, and asking me to make decisions but I don't have all the information to do so. And I just feel like they're pressuring me into things that I don't like or want to do etc.
I feel all this work stuff is out of my control. And that's not very nice.

So I guess I'll have to take back that control somehow... I don't like that they can exercise so much pressure over me, all for the sake of a career, as if there's nothing more important. Rubbish!

Right, rant over... for now at least. Gonna make a phone call and stand up for myself.

It's because we both work full time, so the dog would be home alone for several hours during the day. We said we'd get a dog walker to take the dog out every day, so it would only be on it's own for a little while, and I would try to work from home twice a week, but even that wasn't good enough.

I think it's ridiculous. IRP has got experience with this breed, he's had two before. And he would definitely give it a good home. We've been working to make the dog's day room ready, where it would have free access to the garden, the garage, and two nice warm rooms inside the house with a big comfy chair and everything. Beats a little doghouse outside anytime!

I know any dog would have a great home at IRP's as he's so caring, and these dogs need new homes... I understand they have to do thorough checks to ensure the welfare of the dog, but I feel they dismissed us a bit too soon. They didn't even come for a house visit in the end.

We'll try another dog rescue centre and hope for the best. In the mean time, if anyone knows of a dobermann that needs a new home...

All the funny bits were in the trailer and there wasn't much more to it. But it was entertaining, and it was fun looking forward to it, practising my kung fu moves and making lame kung fu jokes.

I understand it's the turn of the Kung Fu Chickens next...

At least the weekend is upon us again! So far today, it's stayed dry which is a definite bonus! Going for a few drinks tonight (hopefully it doesn't end up like last week), then maybe a walk tomorrow and a little picnic on the seafront on sunday. Fingers crossed for good weather.
